Pune, March 16: A devastating fire broke out early Monday morning at a closed grocery warehouse in Mamurdi, Pune. The incident occurred around 5:00 AM, causing panic among local residents as flames and smoke billowed from the site.
Firefighters, alerted by local residents, arrived promptly and worked tirelessly to control the blaze. However, by the time they managed to extinguish the fire, goods worth millions were completely destroyed. Fire brigade officials are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
A firefighter on the scene shared, “We received a call from the main police station around 5 AM reporting a fire at a grocery store. A fire engine was dispatched immediately. Upon arrival, we found the entire store engulfed in flames. The store had six shutters, all closed and completely red from the fire, which made it challenging to begin extinguishing the flames. We had to open each shutter one by one to douse the fire inside. There were 50-60 cans of oil boiling inside, which could have caused further issues if they exploded. We took great care to control the fire and prevent it from spreading. The cause of the fire is still unclear, and an investigation is underway.”
It is noteworthy that a fire also broke out in Pune’s historic Shaniwar Wada area on March 12, where garbage and dry wood near the main gate caught fire, quickly spreading and causing alarm among locals. Fire department teams responded swiftly and managed to bring the situation under control after significant effort.
