Monsoon Weakens in Madhya Pradesh, Heavy Rainfall Unlikely for Few Days

Bhopal, September 12 (Patrika English News): The monsoon has weakened in Madhya Pradesh, bringing temporary relief from heavy rainfall. According to the Meteorological Department, no heavy rain alerts have been issued for Friday, though light showers are expected in districts including Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior and Jabalpur. A fresh weather system is likely to become active on September 15–16, which could trigger widespread heavy rainfall across the state.

Monsoon

So far, Madhya Pradesh has received an average of 41.6 inches of rain — about 10% above the normal quota. The seasonal average stands at 37 inches, which was already achieved last week. More than 30 districts, including Bhopal, Rajgarh, Raisen, Vidisha, Katni, Narsinghpur, Gwalior, Shivpuri, Ratlam, Mandsaur, Neemuch, and Satna, have recorded their full seasonal rainfall quota. In some districts, rainfall has exceeded 150% of the average, with Sheopur registering 213%.

However, conditions remain poor in the Malwa-Nimar region. Out of 15 districts in Indore and Ujjain divisions, five — Khargone, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Shajapur and Barwani — have yet to record even 27 inches of rainfall.

The weather office said current active systems are positioned far from the state, which is why heavy rain is unlikely until mid-September.
