Rajasthan Ends Cash Payments for Challans; Online Payment Made Mandatory

Jaipur (Patrika English News): In a major step towards transparency, the Rajasthan government has barred cash payments for traffic and transport challans. From September 11, 2025, all fines and fees under the Transport and Road Safety Department must be paid exclusively through online modes.

Online challan payment

According to the official order, RTO inspectors and subordinate officers will no longer be allowed to accept cash during challan compounding. To ensure smooth implementation, all regional and district transport officers have been directed to strictly comply with the new system. Public awareness campaigns will also be launched to inform citizens of the change.

Towards a Fully Digital System

The state has been gradually shifting towards an online challan framework. Traffic police in Rajasthan already operate a cashless system, where vehicle owners must settle challans digitally. Now, the Transport Department has extended this practice across all its operations.

The National Informatics Centre (NIC) has been tasked with ensuring seamless functioning of the online payment platform. Officials said the move will make the system more transparent, secure, and accountable, while also reducing chances of corruption linked to cash transactions.
