TMC Disciplinary Committee to Meet Next Week Over Rebel MLA Humayun Kabir’s Remarks

Kolkata, October 26 — The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has called a disciplinary committee meeting next week to discuss action against party leaders who have made public statements against the leadership. Party sources confirmed that the meeting will primarily focus on rebel MLA Humayun Kabir from Bharatpur in Murshidabad district, who has recently made controversial remarks targeting senior party officials.

According to sources, members of the disciplinary committee will consult with Chief Minister and party chief Mamata Banerjee before the meeting. Senior TMC leader Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay is coordinating with committee members regarding the agenda. While the exact date has not been finalised, the meeting is expected to be held in the coming week.

In recent days, Humayun Kabir has publicly criticised several TMC leaders in Murshidabad, including district president Apurba Sarkar. Kabir alleged that he would expose multiple local leaders, saying,

“I will reveal the truth about the politics in the district and put up their photos on the walls. Let the party expel me — I am ready to leave.”

He also accused Apurba Sarkar of playing a role in the arrest of TMC MLA Jiban Krishna Saha, who was detained in connection with the school recruitment scam.

“I have information about how the district president influenced Jiban Krishna Saha’s father, Bishwanath Saha, leading to the MLA’s arrest,” Kabir claimed.

The remarks have caused embarrassment for the ruling party, which has been facing internal dissent in parts of West Bengal ahead of the upcoming civic and panchayat elections.

TMC insiders suggest that disciplinary action against Kabir could range from a formal warning to suspension or expulsion, depending on the outcome of the committee’s deliberations.
