Jodhpur, October 10 (Udaipur Kiran News). World Mental Health Day was celebrated on Friday. During this period, public awareness programs were organized at hospitals and other places.

A public awareness program was organized in the auditorium of the mental illness department of Mathuradas Mathur Hospital. The program was organized under the leadership of Department Head Dr. Sanjay Gehlot, in which hospital doctors, nursing staff, Telemanas staff, relatives of patients and medical students participated. The theme of World mental health day this year was Access to Services: Mental Health in Disasters and Emergency Situations.

Special guest of the program, Dr. BS Jodha, Principal and Controller of SN Medical College, said that mental health is equally important like physical health. He told that there are many misconceptions in the society about mental diseases, whereas with timely identification and regular treatment, the patient can become completely healthy. He described psychological counselling, regular medication, positive thinking and family support as essential for mental health.

Keynote speaker Dr. Sanjay Gehlot said that stress at the workplace is becoming a major cause of mental illness today. Circumstances like excessive workload, feeling of insecurity, low salary and lack of support increase mental pressure. Due to ignorance and superstition regarding mental illnesses in the society, people delay treatment, which worsens the situation. Dr. Gehlot suggested that regular exercise, adequate sleep, balanced diet, giving importance to relationships and creating a positive environment are beneficial for mental health.

Dr. Surendra Kumar said that mental diseases are as common as physical diseases. He told that with proper treatment and medical consultation, the patient can become completely healthy and the dependence on medicines gradually ends. Under the program, intern students organized a poster exhibition on topics related to mental health. In the end, Dr. Shreyans Jain thanked all the guests and participants.
