Jaipur, October 17 (Udaipur Kiran News). This year’s Diwali is going to be not only a festival of lights but also of environmental protection, cow conservation and indigenous innovation in Rajasthan. This time, Gomay lamps made from indigenous breed cow dung and rare medicinal herbs will be lit at Rajasthan Raj bhavan. This initiative will give an inspiring message to the entire state that even a traditional festival like Diwali can be celebrated as a confluence of nature and tradition.

Representatives of various cow service organizations met Governor Haribhau Bagde on Friday and presented him cow lamps. On this occasion, the delegation led by Dr. Atul Gupta, International Convener of All India Goshala Sahayog Parishad, presented special lamps made from desi cow dung to the Governor. The Governor was requested to make arrangements for lighting Gomay lamps at the residences of all the MLAs also. Various cow service organizations are ready to provide lamps. Governor Bagde, while praising this unique environmental initiative, said that such efforts are a beautiful confluence of India’s cultural traditions and modern environmental consciousness, which inspires the society towards a nature-friendly life.

It is noteworthy that these cow lamps are being prepared on a large scale at Pinjrapole Gaushala Vedic Plant Research Center located on Tonk Road, Jaipur. The women of the self-help groups here are not only making lamps, but are also playing an active role in the process from their packaging to marketing. The women of Mata Rani Self Help Group are making about five thousand lamps every day. It takes only one and a half minutes to prepare a lamp. This work has become a powerful medium for self-reliance, respectable livelihood and social empowerment of rural women.
