Hyderabad, March 30: Telangana’s Director General of Police (DGP) B. Shivdhar Reddy has made a heartfelt appeal to underground leaders and activists of the CPI (Maoist) party to lay down their arms and reintegrate into the national mainstream.
In a statement, the police chief urged the leaders and activists of the banned organization to abandon violence, Surrender their weapons, and embrace a safe and dignified life within the democratic framework. He referenced a prior appeal made by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, encouraging those involved in underground activities to return to their families and adopt a peaceful existence in society.
The DGP highlighted that, due to the continuous efforts of the Telangana police over the past two years, a total of 721 Maoists from various ranks in Telangana and Chhattisgarh have surrendered and returned to the mainstream. This number includes four central committee members, 19 state committee members, and 36 divisional committee members.
Furthermore, the DGP noted that all individuals who surrender are provided financial assistance and other benefits under the state government’s comprehensive Rehabilitation policy, enabling them to lead a respectable life in their native villages.
Shivdhar Reddy made a special appeal to Telangana natives active in Maoist groups in other states, including Muppalla Lakshman Rao alias Ganapati (72), Pusunuri Narhari alias Santosh (57), Varta Shekhar alias Mangthu (51), Jode Ratnabai alias Sujata (68), Nakka Sushila alias Rela (51), and Rangboyina Bhagya alias Rupi (43), urging them to return and take advantage of the rehabilitation scheme.
The DGP assured that the state government would arrange advanced medical treatment for Ganapati in Hyderabad, whose health condition is deteriorating. He also recalled the personal appeal made by the Chief Minister during a press conference on March 7, when 130 Maoists surrendered.
Emphasizing the growing trust in the state’s rehabilitation policy, the DGP noted that activists from other states are also coming forward to surrender. He urged the families and relatives of those still underground to persuade them to return and guide them towards a peaceful path.
Reiterating that lasting solutions can only be achieved through democratic means, the DGP called on Maoist activists to renounce violence and become partners in development.
