New Delhi, March 13: The central government has achieved another significant milestone in strengthening road infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced that several crucial works related to safety and passenger amenities have been completed on National Highway-44 at a total project cost of approximately ₹171.25 crores.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Gadkari stated, “We have completed several important works related to safety and passenger facilities on National Highway-44 with a total project cost of approximately ₹171.25 crores. These initiatives include improvements at the ‘Sidco’ Chowk and the black spots on the Gole Mela–Sangur section, construction of an LVUP along the service road in Samba, and the development of modern wayside amenities in Jhajjar Kotli, Qazigund, and Marhama.”
He further explained that these locations had been identified as accident-prone areas and points of high traffic conflict along the highway. The improvements made have enhanced traffic flow, made turning at bends safer, and improved road conditions, significantly boosting safety and reducing traffic congestion.
Gadkari also highlighted that the developed wayside amenities on this route provide rest areas, parking facilities, food courts, and sanitation services for travelers, tourists, and truck drivers who travel this vital route.
Sharing images of the national highway on ‘X’, he added, “These improvements will make the movement of passenger and freight vehicles on National Highway-44 more convenient and safe. National Highway-44 is a crucial route that connects Jammu to the Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country.”
The Union Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening highway infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aiming to promote connectivity, economic growth, and tourism in the region.
